Life With Lupus

Can anyone recommend a Rheumatologist in the Los Angeles area?

A member from another group is in need of a good Rheumie in Los Angeles area, can anyone help, please? I have already checked our Dr referral section.

I like my rheumatologist so far though I'm fairly new in this journey. His name is Nathanial Neal and he's in Long Beach, CA. He was recommended by my primary care doctor who had recommended two - they both had first appointments several months out. My sister had the same issue about 50 miles away. Apparently, rheumatologists are in demand!

Dr Daniel Wallace or Dr Bluestone at UCLA. I’ve seen them both speak and Dr WAllace wrote The Lupus Book. Only 5000 board certified Rheumys in entire USA. Big shortage.

I see Dr. Wallace. If you want a Dr who gives you his full attention, sees you quickly (never have to wait), patiently explains what's going on and is tops in his field - see him. New patient appointments are on Wednesdays. He is affiliated with UCLA and Cedars Sinai. His office is across the street from Cedars. He is this best!!

Thanks a thousand to all, I passed that along to our 'sister member' on BF Psoriatic Arthritis group.

Yes, I just read in a Rheumatology magazine that there are only 5,000 in the country!

Hi there…I will just put this out there in case you are interested. She is not a Rheumy, but has a thriving Family Practice that treats autoimmune diseases. Dr. Chitra Bhakta in Santa Ana on Tustin Ave. She is outstanding! Goggle her.

Thank you all so much, I passed all of this along to her and will thank her for you!

You really need to tell your friend that Lupus LA is having a conference this Saturday at Cedars Sinai. I just emailed a cancellation so there may still be a seat for her. Dr. Wallace will be speaking and it is a great chance to meet others with Lupus. She can Google Lupus LA and get the info!

Thanks for the info, she is a Psoriatic Arthritis member, so not quite the same except that a good Rheumatologist is crucial. You have given me many good Doctors to take to her. Thanks again!

I don't know how to post links, just google LupusLA.org and you should get the info from there. They are also having a conference in Irvine soon if you can't make it this weekend.

While not directly in LA. Dr Nancy Godfrey out of Long Beach is very good. Good luck

i think it would help if you said what kind of doctor you would like to work with. I personally like doctors that respect me and treat me as a partner in the decision making. They spend as much time as needed so do not schedule patient every ten minutes more like one every half hour. Just few examples of what i liked.

I put it out there like that and someone did actually recommended a dr for me in northern calif that sounds exactly like what i am looking for...just now getting all paper work done that this dr requires before he even sees you !!

GOOD LUCK....reason i am suggesting this is...i have had other doctors recommended and when i got there, despite me saying to his office staff like 10 times what kind of doctor i was looking for he was not at all respectful plus wanted to basically re diagnose me because American Doctors do things differently than in Thailand...and i am suppose to take that as compliment to this country? Was total waste of over 2 hours !! plus money it cost to see him so think about if you could have your ideal doctor what would they be like...and ask for that kind of Rheum doctor.. good luck

I am crossing boarders between groups trying to help someone with Psoriatic Arthritis find a Doctor, and I am sure we all want the same kind of Rheumatologist, she is trying to rid herself of one that spends 5 minutes and walks out of the door just when you start to ask a question, this is usually after waiting 3-6 months to see them in the first place.

It's a hit and miss with Doctors, some expect less, I would imagine, perhaps the ones of us who actually got here to get help from others in need of support and reference have the same needs, we hope.

Thanks to all who have offered to recommend this for one who is still searching.

Hope your appointment went well. Sending good thoughts...

I'm going to see Dr. Wallace today. I'm driving 2 hours just to see him. He's my last change but I know he will fix me since everyone says he's the best! I'm excited!
